Why do i make calls?

Were it all started......

To me a custom call is more then just a tool used for calling game it´s a piece of craftsmanship and sometimes pure artwork.

Through the years i´ve come to know many of North Americas best call makers and predatorhunters, i will be letting you know further on who these guys are.

Back in 2006 i didn´t know what a custom made predator call was but i read in a magazine about a guy here in Sweden that had adapted the American way of hunting small predators like foxes, pine marten a.s.o with hand calls.

The results of his study for the article showed that he´d be able two hunt animals over a wide area using sound, the sound of a small animal in distress like rabbit, mouse or bird.

I was in low period of hunting as i had no access to hunting ground were i lived for the moment and this hunting technique could get me some access to land as the Redfox is the top predator in many areas when it comes to groundnesting gamebirds, Roedeers and Rabbits.

If i could only prove to myself and hunters around me that this "calling thing" i´d read about would be as effective as claimed i´d probably get some land to hunt on just to control Redfox population.

So i needed a good call to start with and i turned to Ulf Lindroth who was the author of the article and asked for advise in getting a call, after a few turns and some e-mails across the pond i had my first call shipped from the legendary Richard Cronk it was named "Killer-Call" and had a good reputation and still has.

My first called in Redfox were shot only a couple of months later in Febuary 2007 and was as hooked on this as i guess a basejumper is for adrenaline....

I started my website/blog http://www.fredrikshunting.blogspot.com/ to have something to post pictures on as i by then was member of http://www.thepredatormastersforums.com/ and needed a place to host pictures and to every picture i posted came a story. And as time went on i opened a paypal account to be able to buy calls from custom call maker on that forum, i bought calls and tried different sounds and types of calls and got more interested in callmaking.

In mid March of 2007 i got my first shipment of call parts from Loren Reese in Alaska it was 10 toneboards for open reed calls, i tried out differen body/bell types in wood but as i found a antler from a Roedeer in the desk at home i knew that was my style.

And so was my first Antlercall made....(picture above)
